Steve Smith breaks Inzamam-ul-Haq's long standing record

Australia’s Steve Smith who is having a noteworthy Ashes, has broken the record of former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq of scoring most fifty plus scores against a single side in red ball cricket.

The 30 year old smashed the milestone on the second day of the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval as he knocked his sixth fifty plus score against England. Inzamam-ul-Haq had knocked nine fifty plus score against England. While, Steve Smith now has 10 fifty plus score.

Steve Smith has cumulated 751 runs in the ongoing Ashes Test, after he knocked 80 runs in the fifth Test. However, he failed to convert his fifty into hundred.

Currently, Steve Smith is the number one ranked batsman in the ICC Test ranking and is ahead of Virat Kohli by 34 points. England bundled out Australia for 225 in the first innings, gaining a lead of 69 runs at the Oval.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne recouped the innings for Australia as they put up a 69 runs partnership, but their stand was curtailed by Jofra Archer as he dismissed Labuschagne to reduce the Aussies to 83/3.

Steve Smith however kept batting at one end, but he was finally dismissed by Chris Woakes reducing Australia to 187 for 8.
