Assam: 6.4 magnitude earthquake hits state, tremors felt across Northeast, North Bengal
A massive earthquake of 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the Northeast state of Assam on Wednesday, as per the National Center for Seismology. The epicenter for the quake was 43 km west of Tezpur, Assam and the depth was 17 km.
Strong tremors were observed in Assam’s Guwahati, North Bengal and other parts of the Northeast.

"Big earthquake hits Assam. I pray for the well being of all and urge everyone to stay alert. Taking updates from all districts," Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who tweeted minutes after the earthquake, also shared photos showing the impact of the quake.
The National Disaster Management Agency has been evaluating reports of destruction and casualties, if any, after the quake.
