Kerala: Man purchased snake to kill his wife; know what happened next
In a bizarre murder case has come to light from Kerala’s Kollam city where a husband tried to kill his wife with the help of a snake.
Initially, police thought that she died of snakebite but, later the crime branch probe into the case found that it was a pre-planned murder.
According to the police, the man purchased the snake allegedly to kill his wife.
Police arrested Sooraj(husband) and his accomplice on Sunday for killing the 25-year-old wife Uthra.
The man has also confessed to the crime during the interrogation.
"In connection with the death of Uthra, her husband Sooraj and his friend Suresh, a snake catcher, who sold the snake, have been arrested after a detailed interrogation on Sunday," said Kollam Rural SP Harisankar told media.
The incident took place on May 6 night at Uthra’s house. Sooraj brought the venomous snake inside a bag and threw it at his wife when she was sleeping.
According to the police, Sooraj was watching a snake biting his wife twice. After this, he tried to put the snake in a container but failed to do so. The snake escaped and went under the cupboard. However, he stayed awake to catch the snake.
The next day, he left the home of Uthra’s parents' home. Later, her parents found her dead. Also, the snake was found in the room, the police said.
However, Uthra's parents got suspicious as it was the second time when viper bit her. Later, they filed a police complaint.
In the investigation, police found that Sooraj purchased the viper from his friend Suresh and tried to kill his wife at his maternal home on March 2. However, she was discharged from the hospital and returned to her home.
Police investigation revealed that Sooraj used to watch YouTube videos to handle snakes and also learned it from his friend, who is a snake catcher.
Sooraj murdered his wife as he wanted to get rid of her and wanted to marry another woman, the police said.
