Lunar eclipse 2020: When and where to watch Chandra Grahan

The first Lunar eclipse of the year 2020 will take place tonight at 10:37 pm. The celestial event will last for more than an hour, and end at around 2:42 am of 11th January.

In this particular lunar eclipse, the moon is also called ‘Wolf Moon’ for the reason that it will coincide with the full Moon. A full Moon takes place once in every 29.5 days, appearing halfway through the lunar cycle.

The lunar eclipse today, will be the first of four Penumbral lunar eclipses will happen on 5th June, 5th July and 30th November, respectively.

This year, six eclipses will take palce, out of which four lunar eclipses will occur on 10th January, 5th June, 5th July and 30th November and two eclipses on 21st June and 14th December. A yearly solar eclipse will occur on 14th December, which will not be observable in India because it will take place in the night in the country.

In India, the penunbral lunar eclipse will commence from 10:37 pm on 10th January night. The full optical affect of the eclipse could be seen around 12:41 am. At this time close to 90 per cent of the moon will be tucked by the partial shadow region of the earth.

In Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and other northern parts of India, the penumbral eclipse will not be seeable beacuse of clouds, cold weather, rain and snowfall. However, people living in southern India will be able to see it better. Be that as it may, it would be strenuous to see the impact of the eclipse on the Moon through the unaided eye.
